Studio concept — not a client project

Kiln Lane Ceramics — from the craft-fair table to a shop that runs itself.

An independent Irish ceramics maker selling handmade tableware and homeware, moving from markets and word of mouth to a real online shop.

The brief

Kiln Lane sells at markets and through a small following built by word of mouth. The brief: a shop that reads as considered and handmade — not mass-market — with an identity that could carry across packaging, labels and the site itself, since none of that existed yet.

Approach

  • Branding came first: a palette and mark drawn from the materials themselves (clay, glaze, paper tags), before a single shop page was designed.
  • The product grid was built for a small, changing catalogue — pieces sell out and get replaced, so the shop needed to handle that gracefully, not assume permanent stock.
  • Checkout was kept deliberately short: a small catalogue doesn't need a big-retailer flow.
